Our final concert of the 2012-13 season features two 20th Century works of great beauty.
Benjamin Britten's The Company of Heaven combines the voices of chorus and soloists with spoken texts. Originally written as a feature for radio in 1937, it was not performed as a concert piece until 1989 and remains one of Britten's less frequently performed choral pieces. However, this belies its beauty and accessibility. The performance is part of the 'A Boy Was Born' Festival celebrating the centenary of Britten's birth.
Musick's Jubilee by Andrew Carter is a joyous celebration of the mythological power of music as described in the words of Marvell, Dryden and Tennyson.
The Chorus will be joined by the Northern Chamber Orchestra and soloists Andrea Ryder, Cari Searle and Nathan Vale.
