The New Age

monteverdi postcard

Start your Christmas celebrations in Venetian style with a concert featuring music by Claudio Monteverdi, including his 'Christmas Vespers'.

The concert, a collection of anthems, psalms and hymns from Monteverdi's collection "Selva morale e spirituale", affords a remarkable panorama of early Baroque choral music; the most subtly delicious solo sections contrast with energetic ensembles and choruses and some sumptuous harmonic blocks; all this interspersed with mediaeval plainsong in different parts of the Cathedral: a concert not to be missed with a dazzling array of young up-and-coming professional soloists.

Laurie Ashworth, Lucy Hall - Soprano;   Ben Williamson - Counter Tenor
