Sheffield Oratorio Chamber Choir will join the well-loved local group, Dore Male Voice Choir, for a joint concert at St Andrew's, Psalter Lane, on Saturday May 7th. The concert, in support of the David Clover Festival of Singing, will showcase the growing repertoire of the chamber choir, featuring a selection of folk songs, spirituals, anthems and motets.
The chamber choir was established in 2013 with the aim of performing works more suited to a smaller group than the full ensemble. It made its debut in February 2014 singing sections of Palestrina’s 'Missa aeterna Christi munera' as part of SOC’s concert held in St. Marie’s Cathedral, and represented SOC at the first Classical Sheffield Festival in October 2015. Most recently the choir performed four Bruckner Motets as part of our March 2016 concert in Sheffield Cathedral.
Dore Male Voice Choir formed in 1964 and has gained competition successes in many national music festivals, including Huddersfield, Morecambe, Blackpool and Eskdale. The choir has toured overseas and performed in many prestigious venues, including York Minster and the Royal Albert Hall. They are proud to have contributed thousands of pounds to charity over the years, from the money raised from concerts, donations and CD sales.
